Lantern Parade


Broomfield’s Public Art Committee is hosting its Second Annual Earth Day Lantern Parade. This springtime event is our way to bring the community together to celebrate whimsy, light and art while also showcasing ways that art making can be sustainable.   

FREE Lantern Making Workshops

  • Registration is Required, except for the Open House.
  • All ages welcome. Age 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult for the entire workshop.
  • Families are welcome to register under one person and make/decorate a lantern together.
  • All materials are supplied, so just bring your creativity.
  • Workshops are held at the Mamie Doud Eisenhower Public Library, 2nd floor, Eisenhower Room

April 1 ~ Lantern Making Workshop #1: Fish Lanterns

Join KC Lancaster in making Fish Lanterns. Create a colorful fish out of provided paper, recycled materials and paint.  Two designs will be available - a puffer fish and a jellyfish - or you can get creative and make your own!

April 8 ~ Lantern Making Workshop #2: Hats off to you!

Join Roxanne Macke in making a whimsical top hat lantern.  Learn how to make a Mad Hatter/Steampunk style top hat and you are encouraged to make it your own style.

April 15 ~ Lantern Making Workshop #3: Pollinators ~ Bees, Butterflies & Flowers

Join Katy Olmsted in making pollinator lanterns. Each participant will have a choice of making/decorating either a bee, butterfly or flower shaped lantern. This workshop is great for ages 10 or older.

April 22 ~ Lantern Making Workshop #4: Animal Open House

[no registration required]
Join the Public Art Committee the day of the parade for the final lantern making workshop, Animal Open House.  Participants will make animal faces of their choice. This is less of a teacher guided workshop and more of a “Do it yourself” lantern making project. No registration required.

Volunteers will be available to help participants when needed. This is an open house event and participants can come as early as 4:30 p.m. Allow for at least an hour of time to make the lantern. The workshop ends at 6:30 p.m. Line up for the parade at the Broomfield Amphitheater begins at 7:30 p.m.
