Renewal of CO Concealed Handgun Permit
Renewal of Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit

EFFECTIVE MARCH 14, 2014

House Bill 14-1166, that went into effect March 14, 2014, created changes to how you renew your concealed handgun permit. You must now submit a concealed handgun renewal permit application to the county sheriff’s office where you reside, own property, or own a business.

If you currently have a concealed handgun permit with City and County of Broomfield and now live in another county (and do not own property or a business in Broomfield), you must renew your permit with the county you live in.

If you live in the City and County of Broomfield and have a permit from another county (and do not own property or a business in another county), you need to apply for a renewal through the City and County of Broomfield.

Colorado concealed handgun permits may be renewed within 120 days prior to the expiration of the permit. It is recommended you allow at least 60 to 90 days for the renewal process.

Permits that are expired may be renewed within six months of the expiration date. There is an additional $15 fee to renew expired permits. No permit will be renewed six months or more after the expiration date.

You may obtain a renewal application by:
  • Downloading and printing out the Application and Affidavit of Qualification.
  • Picking up an application at the Broomfield Police Department, 7 DesCombes Drive, at the Records Counter.
  • Calling 720.887.2086 and requesting an application be sent to you.

Renewal applications may be dropped off at the Records Counter of the Broomfield Police Department, 7 DesCombes Drive between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday (not including holidays).

Process to follow to renew permit...
  • Complete the Application form. Remember to check the renewal box and leave the application unsigned -- you will need to sign it in front of a Police Department representative.  Proof of handgun training is not required for renewal of a permit.
  • If you are renewing a permit from another county, make sure to write "Broomfield" in the box for "County of Issue."  Also include a photo copy of your permit.
  • Complete the Affidavit of Qualification form and have your signature notarized on the form.
  • Have a personal check, cashier's check, or money order for $50 made payable to the Broomfield Police Department for the processing fee.  If your permit has expired, there is a $15 late fee in addition to the renewal fee.
  • Have a cashier's check or money order only for $13 made payable to the Colorado Bureau of Investigations for the background check.
  • Include proof of current residency in Colorado (Colorado Driver's License, Colorado ID Card, or Military ID Card and Duty Orders).
