Therapeutic Fitness
Dance and Movement Class
This class is for individuals with developmental disabilities. Want to have some fun learning new dance moves? This is the class for you! The class is designed for the beginner. We will learn to warm - up, stretch, and learn basic dance steps. We’ll experiment with styles of dancing such as jazz, rock n’ roll and swing. Wear comfortable, easy to move and stretch in clothing. Stay for bocceball at 6 p.m. This class is for ages 8 years and over at PDRC.

Spin® and Fit
This class is for individuals with developmental disabilities. Train your heart and strengthen your lower body with a Spinning ride for the first half hour. The second half we will work on your core muscles with the fit ball and cool down stretching, including yoga postures. This class is for ages 12 years and over.

Weight Training
This class is for individuals with developmental disabilities. Need help with the machines, want a trainer to help you with your workout program? Then join us and your friends in a weekly workout on the weights. Taught by a certified personal trainer. This class is for ages 15 years and over.

Adaptive Gymnastics
This is an introduction to the sport of gymnastics. Participants are taught basic fundamentals of floor exercise, balance beam, uneven bars and vault; also emphasizing strength building, coordination and body awareness. This class is for ages 8 years and over.

Climbing the Wall
This class is for individuals with developmental disabilities. Looking for a class where your child can use up their extra energy in a productive way? This class will help your child work on motor planning, strength, and communication skills at the same time. This class is for ages 6 to 15 years.

Sports Spring Training
Join us in training for the spring sports season. Whether you want to participate in Special Olympics Track & Field, Swim Team, Soccer or Gymnastics or just get moving, this class is the perfect start. Each class will be motivating using the track, gym, and weight equipment with the focus on building cardio endurance.

Ready to Race?

Want to get out and enjoy the outdoors with your friends and work on your cardio endurance at the same time? Are you wanting to sign up for the local 5K race but need some help getting ready? We will start at your pace walking/jogging through the Commons trails adjacent to the Paul Derda Recreation Center. Great pairing for the Special Olympics Spring Track & Field season. You will receive a pedometer for the class session. This class is designed for individuals with disabilities.

Track and Field: Special Olympics
On your marks, get set, go! Train with us for Special Olympics and have a great time while working out. Improve your physical fitness and meet new friends. We will start indoors at Paul Derda Recreation Center indoor track and move outdoors after a few weeks. All ability levels welcome. If you choose to compete in the Special Olympics sanctioned meet your medical must be up to date prior to the first competition.

Soccer: Special Olympics
Join us on the field and learn the basic fundamentals of soccer. This is a great way to get in shape for summer. We will start indoors, location to be determined and then move outdoors to Highland Park. If you choose to compete in the Special Olympics sanctioned tournament your medical must be up to date prior to the first competition.

Softball League: Special Olympics
We will be participating in the Boulder unified softball league on Tuesday nights starting in May. Transportation is on your own. We will head to the Broomfield batting cages the week before our first scheduled game. Game times vary due to league schedule play. If you choose to compete in a Special Olympics sanctioned tournament your medical must be up to date prior to the first competition.

Bocceball: Special Olympics
Join us for a relaxing afternoon. We will learn the technique of “lawn bowling”. Come to socialize and train for the optional Special Olympics competition. If you choose to compete in a Special Olympics sanctioned tournament your medical must be up to date prior to the first competition.
