Food Inspections
Environmental Health Specialists work to promote a healthier environment by safeguarding the air we breathe, the water we drink and the food we eat.

Broomfield City and County follows the
Colorado Retail Food Establishment Rules and Regulations. Broomfield’s Environmental Health Specialists perform inspections on over 250 retail food establishments (RFE) within the City and County of Broomfield. RFE inspections are an attempt to protect the public's health by assuring that food is prepared and served in a safe manner.

RFE inspection reports list critical and non-critical violations. According to the Colorado Retail Food Establishment Rules and Regulations, a critical violation is more likely than other violations to contribute to food contamination, illness or an environmental health hazard. A non-critical violation is a violation of the regulations that usually relates to general sanitation, operational controls, operating procedures, facilities or structures, equipment design or general maintenance.

RFE inspections are a snapshot of the conditions on the day of the inspection. It is best to review inspection reports over time to get a more accurate picture of the RFE.

RFE reports are public record. If you have questions regarding Broomfield’s food inspections, please call 720.887.2220.
