Health Care Reform
In 2010, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed into law in an effort to make health insurance more affordable and expand public health coverage to more citizens.  There are a variety of options for citizens to learn and make informed decisions about selecting health care coverage to meet their individual needs.

Connect for Health Colorado
Connect for Health Colorado is a new online health insurance marketplace that opened on October 1, 2013. This marketplace is sometimes referred to as the “health insurance exchange.” Individuals, families and small employers can shop for and buy health insurance through the Connect for Health Colorado website and determine if they qualify for federal cost-savings programs that lower the cost of monthly premiums, copays, or deductibles. Individuals and families between 138% and 400% of the federal poverty level (FPL) may qualify for assistance through the health insurance exchange.  Those below the 138% of FPL may be eligible for Medicaid.  All applicants for medical insurance must be determined ineligible for Medicaid before being referred to the health insurance exchange.  Please see the section below for information and resources related to Medicaid.

Those interested in applying for health care coverage can complete an online application at www.ConnectforHealthCO.com or can call the toll free number at 1-800-221-3943 to complete an application over the phone.  Broomfield residents may also receive assistance through scheduled group orientations with Broomfield’s Health Care Coverage Guide by calling 720-887-2262.

Beginning in January 2014, Medicaid eligibility requirements will expand to 138% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) for all individuals ($30,657 per year for a family of four and $14,856 per year for an individual). Colorado Medicaid already covers children up to 133% FPL, so the expansion will increase coverage to parents with Medicaid-eligible children and to adults without dependent children.
